If your operation requires more contamination control than standard bouffant caps provide, you need a balaclava. The key situations: ISO-classified cleanrooms where airborne contamination is regulated, pharmaceutical compounding where every hair counts, cannabis processing facilities with Health Canada GPP requirements, and sensitive food production zones like ready-to-eat or infant formula. The full neck-and-ear coverage prevents stray hairs and skin flakes from contaminating product even during physical activity.
Balaclavas are packed differently than bouffants — 5 packs of 100 instead of 10 packs of 100 — because they're physically larger garments. For an operation issuing one balaclava per shift to 20 staff over a year (5 days × 50 weeks), you'd use 5,000 hoods annually — about 10 cases. That's a fraction of the cost of laundering reusable hoods, plus you eliminate laundry contracts, lifecycle tracking, and replacement budgets.
Some facilities consider reusable cleanroom hoods. The math rarely works out — you need a laundry contract, dedicated washing equipment to prevent contamination, lifecycle tracking, and replacement budget. Disposable balaclavas eliminate all of that. Each shift starts with a guaranteed-clean hood, and used hoods just go in the trash. It's simpler, cheaper, and more audit-friendly.
Made of breathable non-woven polypropylene — the same material as our bouffant caps and beard covers. The fabric is hypoallergenic, latex-free, and comfortable enough for full shifts. The hood design has a generous neck opening that goes over standard work clothing without bunching.
