Balaclava hoods are full-coverage head and neck protection used in cleanroom operations, pharmaceutical manufacturing, sensitive food production zones, and cannabis processing facilities. Unlike standard bouffant caps that only cover hair, balaclavas extend down to cover the neck, ears, and lower face — providing maximum contamination control for the most stringent environments. Available in white polypropylene, packaged 5 packs × 100 = 500 hoods per case — significantly more economical than reusable hood programs.

When You Need a Balaclava Instead of a Bouffant

If your operation requires more contamination control than standard bouffant caps provide, you need a balaclava. The key situations: ISO-classified cleanrooms where airborne contamination is regulated, pharmaceutical compounding where every hair counts, cannabis processing facilities with Health Canada GPP requirements, and sensitive food production zones like ready-to-eat or infant formula. The full neck-and-ear coverage prevents stray hairs and skin flakes from contaminating product even during physical activity.

5 Packs × 100 = 500 Per Case

Balaclavas are packed differently than bouffants — 5 packs of 100 instead of 10 packs of 100 — because they're physically larger garments. For an operation issuing one balaclava per shift to 20 staff over a year (5 days × 50 weeks), you'd use 5,000 hoods annually — about 10 cases. That's a fraction of the cost of laundering reusable hoods, plus you eliminate laundry contracts, lifecycle tracking, and replacement budgets.

Disposable Beats Reusable for Most Operations

Some facilities consider reusable cleanroom hoods. The math rarely works out — you need a laundry contract, dedicated washing equipment to prevent contamination, lifecycle tracking, and replacement budget. Disposable balaclavas eliminate all of that. Each shift starts with a guaranteed-clean hood, and used hoods just go in the trash. It's simpler, cheaper, and more audit-friendly.

Material & Comfort

Made of breathable non-woven polypropylene — the same material as our bouffant caps and beard covers. The fabric is hypoallergenic, latex-free, and comfortable enough for full shifts. The hood design has a generous neck opening that goes over standard work clothing without bunching.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a balaclava different from a bouffant cap?
A bouffant cap covers only the top of the head (hair). A balaclava covers the entire head, neck, ears, and parts of the lower face — providing significantly more contamination control. Balaclavas are used in cleanroom, pharmaceutical, cannabis, and sensitive food production environments.
Why are balaclavas packaged differently than bouffants?
Balaclavas are physically larger garments, so they're packed 5 packs of 100 (500/case) rather than 10 packs of 100 (1,000/case) for bouffants. The per-hood cost remains very low for the level of contamination control they provide.
Can balaclavas be worn over a beard?
Yes — the lower portion of the balaclava covers light to medium beards. For very long or thick beards, we recommend pairing with a separate beard cover underneath for full coverage.
Are these for one-time use only?
Yes, single-use disposable. This is intentional for sterile and HACCP environments — reuse defeats contamination control. Used balaclavas go directly in the trash.
Are they suitable for cannabis processing?
Yes. Many licensed cannabis producers in Canada use our balaclavas for processing and packaging zones to meet Health Canada GPP (Good Production Practices) hygiene requirements.
Can I get them in colors for color-coded programs?
Currently we stock white only. White is the universal standard for cleanroom and pharmaceutical applications. If you have a need for colored balaclavas in volume, contact us for a sourcing quote.
