Synthetic vinyl gloves are the practical mid-tier choice for high-turnover food handling, light medical, and general-purpose work where the tactile demand of nitrile isn't required and the cost-per-pair of a thicker glove doesn't pay off. CLW carries vinyl in two colours — clear for general food handling and blue for HACCP colour-coded hygiene programs — both at 4.5 mil (5 g), powder-free and latex-free, in the standard 100-glove dispenser box.

When Vinyl Beats Nitrile

Nitrile is the default for most examination and food-service work — better tactile feel, better puncture resistance, longer wear. But vinyl wins in two specific scenarios. First: high-turnover food handling where staff change gloves every few minutes (deli counters, sample prep, buffet replenishment) — the cost-per-pair matters more than longevity. Second: customers with nitrile sensitivities or accelerator allergies, where vinyl's simpler chemistry is a better fit. For sustained wear or grip-critical work, see our TouchFlex Blue Nitrile instead.

Clear vs Blue — The HACCP Question

Clear vinyl is the standard for general food handling, retail, and corporate environments. Blue vinyl exists for one specific reason: HACCP food-safety programs where colour-coded glove use by zone reduces cross-contamination risk. If a blue glove fragment ends up in product, it's instantly visible against the food. Many food-production facilities now require coloured gloves at minimum, often in HACCP-coded zones. If your operation hasn't moved to coloured gloves yet, blue vinyl is the entry point.

4.5 Mil — The Right Weight for Vinyl

Vinyl is naturally less elastic than nitrile, so a thinner glove tends to tear at the knuckles during put-on. At 4.5 mil (5 g per glove), this line is on the heavier end of vinyl spec — substantial enough to last through a typical food-prep task without splitting, while still keeping the cost advantage that's the whole reason to choose vinyl in the first place.

Powder-Free, Latex-Free, Food-Safe

All CLW vinyl is powder-free (no airborne residue contaminating product or surfaces) and latex-free (safe for users with latex allergies). Both colours meet food-contact safety standards for direct food handling. The smooth finish supports dexterity for portioning, plating, and packaging tasks.

Where This Product Is Used

Food Manufacturing
High-turnover handling — deli counters, sample prep, buffet replenishment, portioning. Blue for HACCP-coded zones.
Food Service & Kitchens
Light food prep, salad assembly, sandwich line — short-task glove changes where cost-per-pair drives the choice.
Healthcare
Light non-clinical tasks — patient admin, file handling, light cleaning — where examination-grade nitrile is overkill.
Retail & Corporate
Light general-purpose use — receiving, returns handling, general office tasks where any glove is better than no glove.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose vinyl over nitrile?
Two cases. First: high-turnover food handling where staff change gloves every few minutes (deli, sample prep, buffet) — the lower cost-per-pair pays off. Second: workers with nitrile or accelerator sensitivities. For sustained wear, grip-critical work, or anywhere you'd value puncture resistance, nitrile (TouchFlex or Komfort) is the better choice.
What's the difference between clear and blue vinyl?
Same glove, different colour. Clear is the standard for general food handling, corporate, and retail use. Blue is the choice for HACCP colour-coded programs where coloured gloves prevent cross-contamination between zones, and where any glove fragment in product is immediately visible against the food. Many food-production facilities now require coloured gloves.
Are these food-safe?
Yes — both colours meet food-contact safety standards for direct food handling. The synthetic vinyl formulation is powder-free (no residue contaminating product) and latex-free.
What sizes are available?
S, M, L, XL — covers most adult hand sizes. If you need XS for smaller-handed staff, see our AdvanCare Medical Nitrile — the only line we carry with XS.
How does the 4.5 mil weight compare to other vinyl gloves?
On the heavier end of vinyl spec. Many bargain vinyl gloves come in at 3.5 mil or below and split during put-on. At 4.5 mil (5 g per glove) ours holds up to typical food-prep tasks without tearing — while still being lighter and cheaper than examination nitrile.
How are they packaged?
100 gloves per dispenser box, 10 boxes per case. Mix-and-match wholesale ordering supported — combine vinyl with nitrile, poly, or any other CLW glove on a single shipment for wholesale pricing.
